Vesali (English spelling)

…It was one of the six great cities of ancient India, and the capital of the Licchavi people in central India. In Pāli it was called Vesāli, and in Chinese translations of Buddhist scriptures it was written as Bisya. Its ruins are now identified with the village of Basarh, about 30 km north of Patna across the Ganges River.
