They are submerged plants such as waterweed and shrimp grass, whose entire plant body is underwater with its roots on the bottom; floating-leaved plants such as water shield and pondweed, whose leaves float on the water surface; emergent plants such as cattails and lotus, whose leaves and stems are above the water surface; and floating plants such as duckweed and bladderwort, whose entire plant body does not touch the bottom and floats on or below the water surface.
