Born March 5, 1916. After serving as an assistant professor at Kobe University, he became a professor at the Institute for Research in Humanities at Kyoto University in 1964. He specialized in the history of Renaissance culture. In 1962, he published "Aaron Camp," based on his experience as a prisoner of war in Burma during World War II. He later became active as a critic on topics such as family theory and Japanese studies. He passed away on September 17, 1997, at the age of 81. He was born in Kyoto and graduated from Kyoto Imperial University. His works include "Art and Society of the Renaissance" and "The Structure of Japanese Consciousness."
