Kabuki kyogen. Sewamono (domestic story). 4 acts. Written by Kawatake Shinshichi II (→ Kawatake Mokuami). First performed at the Edo Ichimuraza in 1859 (Ansei 6). Commonly known as Izayoi Seishin. Based on the thief Oni-bozu Seikichi, this work is a tale of the break-in at the treasure house of Chiyoda Castle that took place in 1855 (Ansei 2). After an attempted double suicide with Izayoi, the monk Seishin becomes the thief Oni-Azami Seikichi, and is reunited with Izayoi. Both commit crimes, but their sense of duty leads to their suicide.
