Faust, G. (English spelling) FaustG

...A magician who appeared in Germany in the early 16th century and eventually became a legendary hero. In the legend, he appears as Johannes Faust, but the real Faust is said to have been named Georg. Georg Faust was born around 1480, studied theology in Heidelberg and other places, traveled around the country, acquired knowledge of Renaissance natural philosophy, and associated with humanists. His figure was already confused with various magician legends during his lifetime, and his sudden death (around 1536-40) further fueled the legend that the devil took his life.
