...In response to this, the German pietist poet Klopstock was invited by the king to stay in Copenhagen for about 20 years (1751-70), which led Danish literature to imitate Germany. A representative writer of the second half of the 18th century, which was a transitional period of this transformation, was Johannes Ewald (1743-81), who, while following the style of French classicism, wrote ancient Nordic tragedies inspired by Klopstock (his 1773 work "Balder's Death" was the first full-scale opera in Danish literature). After this, sentimentalism (for example, Baggesen's travelogue "Labyrinth" 1792-93) was followed, and the period of romanticism, which is considered the golden age of Danish literature, arrived. ...
