…the joint of the three bones forms a round recess called the acetabulum on the outer surface of the hip bone, which forms the hip joint cavity. The ilium (os ilium) is the large upper part, so named because it holds the intestines like a tray. At the rear of its inner surface is an irregular articular surface called the auricular surface, which articulates with the sacrum.
