Klagenfurt - Klagenfurt (English spelling)

Japanese: クラーゲンフルト - くらーげんふると(英語表記)Klagenfurt
Klagenfurt - Klagenfurt (English spelling)

The capital of the state of Carinthia in southern Austria. Population 90,141 (2001). Located in the Klagenfurt Basin, at an altitude of 446 meters, it is surrounded by the Eastern Alps, which have dropped to around 2,000 meters. It is an old town that already obtained city rights in 1268, and is currently the administrative, educational, and cultural center of the state. It is also the state's largest industrial city, with one third of the residents working in commerce and industry. There are many different industries, but none are large-scale. The main industries include electricity, gas, metal products, wood products, food, brewing, and printing. Wood products are famous as an industry that depends on the state's abundant forests, and the timber trade fair held in the town attracts traders from both inside and outside the state. Except in the summer, when tourists visit Lake Werthersee in the west, it is a quiet and peaceful city.
