… The style was further formalized in the church of St. Kliment in Ohrid, donated by a Byzantine official in 1295, and further refined in the frescoes of a series of churches built by King Milutin in the early 14th century. Examples include the church of St. Joachim Anna in Studenica and the church of Gračani, which shows an original idea in architecture, but in the church of Dečani in western Kosovo, around 1330, it shows utmost elegance and approaches craftsmanship. After the collapse of the Nemanjić dynasty in the second half of the 14th century and the coming of Ottoman rule, the last medieval Serbian culture was preserved in a series of monasteries along the Morava River (the so-called Moravian School). …
