Electrolytic reduction

A method of reduction using a cathode reaction in electrolysis. The reducing power can be freely selected depending on conditions such as the cathode material, electrolyte, current density, and temperature, and since no reducing agent is used, it is easy to obtain a high-purity product. In addition, since it is easy to use intermediates such as radicals, it is used in a variety of syntheses, including the reduction of many inorganic compounds to low valences (Cu ²⁺ →Cu ⁺ , V ⁵⁺ →V ³⁺ , Ti ⁴⁺ →Ti ³⁺ , etc.) and the synthesis of organic compounds ( p -aminophenol, pentidine, sorbitol, succinic acid, etc.), as well as polymerization reactions and pollution prevention.

電気分解において陰極反応を利用して還元する方法。陰極の材質，電解液，電流密度，温度などの条件により，還元力を自由に選択することができ，還元剤を用いないので純度の高いものが得られやすい。またラジカルなどの中間体の利用が便利なため種々の合成に利用され，多くの無機化合物の低原子価への還元 ( Cu²⁺→Cu⁺，V⁵⁺→V³⁺，Ti⁴⁺→Ti³⁺ など) や有機化合物の合成 (p-アミノフェノール，ペンチジン，ソルビット，コハク酸など) に用いられるほかに，重合反応や公害予防に利用される。
