(1) The title of a Noh piece. The second piece. One of the Shoshuura pieces. Written by Zeami. A monk on a pilgrimage to the western provinces stays at a hut belonging to a fisherman (actually Minamoto no Yoshitsune) on Yashima Island and hears the story of the Genpei War. That night, the ghost of Yoshitsune appears to the monk in a dream, telling him about the archery and his battle with Taira no Noritsune on the Shura road. (2) The title of a Jiuta/Koto piece. Also written as "Yashima." A chant piece. Composed by Fujio Koto of Owari. The lyrics are based on the Noh piece "Yashima," but there are also some parts that are not based on Noh. It is said that Kinomoto Tomoe of Kyoto had him play the piece. The shamisen is played in a san-sagari style. There are various types of koto playing, and the tetsuki style of Yoshizawa Kengyo in Nagoya, Yaezaki Kengyo in Kyoto, and Kikuhara Kinji in Osaka are well known. The interludes in the middle are in the style of tegoto, and it is possible to play the piece with Kinutaji. It is also used as a dance piece. In addition to the Ogie-bushi, which is a version of this piece, there are other pieces with the same name, such as the Kōwaka dance piece.
