Concertino

[kinds]
Concerto types are classified according to the number and type of solo instruments. Historically, the oldest instrumental concerto is the concerto grosso, which consists of a solo group of three or more instruments (originally called a "small concerto") and a string or string-based ensemble (originally called a "grand concerto"), and requires a contrast in volume and tone between the two. In contrast, the solo concerto (solo concerto), consisting of a single solo instrument and an orchestra, has been mainstream since the mid-18th century, and is called a piano concerto, violin concerto, flute concerto, etc. depending on the type of solo instrument.
