Konstantin Aleksandrovich Fedin

Soviet novelist. Born in Saratov in the Volga region. His father was a small merchant born of serfdom, and his mother was the daughter of a teacher. After graduating from Moscow's Higher Commercial School, he studied in Nuremberg, Germany. After the revolution, he returned to Russia and became a member of the literary group "Serapion Brothers," and began his work as a "companion writer." He attracted attention with his novel "Cities and Years" (1924), which explored the problems of intellectuals living in turbulent history, set in Germany and Russia in the pre-revolutionary period. After the novels "Brothers" (1928) and "The Seizing of Europe" (1933-35), he continued to write the three-part novel series "First Joys" (1945), "An Extraordinary Summer" (1948), and "The Bonfire, Part I" (1961) after World War II, depicting the modern history of 20th century Russia on a grand scale.
