A type of women's obi. Also called 9-sun Nagoya. The obi drum part is sewn to a width of 30 cm, and the torso part is sewn to a width of around 15 cm. The fabric is 36 cm wide and around 4.7 meters long, with a torso length of 2.4 to 3 meters and the obi drum part 1.1 to 1.2 meters long, and is finished with an obi core. Nagoya obi was invented and worn by a teacher at a girls' school in Nagoya in 1918 (Taisho 7), a time of economic recession, with the aim of simplifying clothing. It was put on sale at a Nagoya department store and was well-received, becoming popular as a replacement for the belly band obi, and is still widely used today. Originally worn for everyday wear, the way it was tied has been ingeniously improved in recent years, and it is now worn for going out and for formal occasions, second only to the fukuro obi.
