Otokodate - Manly

Japanese:
Otokodate - Manly
It refers to kabukimono, or ruffians, such as the so-called "Hatamoto slaves" and "Machi slaves," or the male customs that these men adopted, which seem to be a remnant of the Warring States period. In the "Otokotate" section of "Kamizubukago" by Misaoya Niji, it is written that "The second Danjuro Kayagi likes to wear red silk undergarments even for men's yukata, and that the men's undergarments are not made of tsumugi, so they are probably made from the tsumugi of a rakugo master, and they like to look strong and strong." They held sway for almost half a century, from the end of the Keicho era (1609-15) to the Kanbun era (1661-1673), but because their thoughts and actions were free-spirited and abnormal, they were wiped out by the Edo Shogunate, which saw them as undesirable for the new era's morals. However, the spirit remained, and the term eventually came to refer to a manly, chivalrous man, based on the idea of "helping the weak and defeating the strong."
