A painting technique used in Yamato-e paintings during the Heian period, as opposed to white painting. It is a technique in which a rough outline is made with ink, then thick layers of pigment are applied, and then the outlines and facial expressions of the figures are drawn on with thin ink lines. The Tale of Genji Illustrated Scroll is a representative example of this technique. → Related topic: Emaki scrolls Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
