...But the realization of the action on February 12th brought about a major change. On March 5th, the Comité de vigilance des intellectuels anti-fascistes was established by P. Ribet of the Trocadero Museum, physicist P. Langevin, philosopher Alain, and others, and also within the labor movement, interparty monitoring committees were formed in various places, including the 15th arrondissement of Paris and Saint-Denis. As the momentum for joint action grew, the Socialist Party and the Communist Party signed a "United Action Pact" on July 27th, and for the first time since their split in 1920, the two parties were working together in the face of the threat of fascism.
