Pastoral Symphony

Japanese:
Pastoral Symphony

This refers to Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F major, "Pastorale" (Op. 68). The subtitle "Pastorale" was given by the composer himself, and each of the five movements has a title such as "Second Movement: Scene by a Stream." This work is not merely a depiction of nature, but pursues the expression of human emotion based on Beethoven's beloved countryside of Heiligenstadt, a suburb of Vienna, and is considered to be a precursor to the Romantic program music of later composers such as Berlioz.
