Awayuki tofu - Awayuki tofu
〘Noun〙① A special tofu that melts instantly on the tongue, as soft as light snow. Sasa no yuki. ② Soft tofu with a thick sauce. It was first made by Hinoya, located at the east end of Ryogoku Bridge in Edo, during the Kyoho era ( 1716-1736 ), and became popular, being used as an inexpensive lunch box by customers at theaters and sumo wrestling shows. Awayuki. ※Dangihon Kyokun Zoku Shitetangi (1753), 4 "One bowl of kendon and one bowl of Awayuki tofu is all I need." ※Kyoka Banzai Kyokashu (1783), 13 "Eating Awayuki tofu by the Ryogoku Bridge"
