Vasiliy Yakovlevich Eroshenko

Japanese: エロシェンコ - えろしぇんこ(英語表記)Василий Яковлевич Ерошенко/Vasiliy Yakovlevich Eroshenko
Vasiliy Yakovlevich Eroshenko

A blind Russian poet. He studied at a school for the blind in Moscow, mastered Esperanto, and later studied in London. In 1914 (Taisho 3), he came to Tokyo and published folk tales and children's stories in Japanese and Esperanto, and formed friendships with Osugi Sakae, Kamichika Ichiko, and Nakamura Tsune. In 1914, he was sent back to Vladivostok on suspicion of being a Soviet spy, and later traveled to Beijing, where he became friends with Lu Xun and became the model for Lu Xun's novel "The Comedy of the Duck." In 1923, he returned to the Soviet Union. His Esperanto autobiography "A Page from My School Life" (1923), "The Moan of a Lonely Soul" (1923), the Japanese short story "The Story of the Lantern," and many other poems and short stories are written. Many of these are filled with the loneliness and melancholy of a wandering blind poet.
