During the July Revolution of 1830, he cooperated in the establishment of the monarchy under Louis-Philippe, and was appointed head of the legislative department of the Council, but died at the end of the same year. Cécile (1951), discovered after the Second World War, is an autobiographical novel based on his second wife, Charlotte de Hardambert, and faithfully traces the events that led to his being unable to break off his relationship with Madame de Stael even after meeting her, and how it took 15 years for him to decide to marry her. He also wrote the unfinished Treatise on Religion (1824-30), many political treatises, diaries, etc. ...
