Baseball Hall of Fame

Japanese: 野球殿堂 - やきゅうでんどう

Founded in 1959 to commemorate and honor players and those who have contributed to the development of Japanese baseball. Modeled after the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, USA. There are Athlete Awards and Special Awards, and being selected for either is commonly referred to as "inducted into the Hall of Fame." Inductees are voted for by a selection committee. When inductees are inducted, a bronze bust of them is displayed in the Hall of Fame at the Baseball Museum in Tokyo Dome (Dome Stadium). The museum also stores and exhibits materials related to the history of baseball and sports-related books.

日本野球の発展に貢献した関係者，選手を記念しその功績を讃えるために1959年創設。アメリカのクーパーズタウンにあるホール・オブ・フェーム Hall of Fame（名誉の殿堂）にならったもの。競技者表彰と特別表彰があり，どちらかに選ばれることを〈殿堂入り〉と通称される。殿堂入りは選考委員会による投票で決定される。殿堂入りすると，ブロンズ製の胸像が東京ドーム（ドーム・スタジアム）内〈野球体育博物館〉の殿堂ホールに飾られる。なお同博物館は，このほか野球の歴史にまつわる資料やスポーツ関連の図書なども収蔵・展覧している。
