Midlands (English spelling)

Japanese: ミッドランズ（英語表記）Midlands

A region in central England, United Kingdom. It spans the counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, and the West Midlands, and includes the eastern part of Hereford and Worcestershire. The terrain is hilly and watered by the Severn and Trent rivers, with the western part made up of Triassic sandstone and the eastern part made up of Jurassic limestone. With an annual rainfall of around 750 mm, it was a typical area of three-field agriculture in the Middle Ages and mixed agriculture today, but dairy farming and market gardening (Evesham Valley) are also found.
