(3) Carding: The fibers are placed on the surface of a large cylinder wrapped with sawtooth metallic wire, and combed between the sawtooth blades on the surface of a roller set above it, or between the needles of a cardboard cloth fixed to a plate connected like a caterpillar, separating each fiber and stretching it out in parallel. Short fibers that float to the surface of the cylinder move to the upper teeth, and impurities also tend to move upwards due to centrifugal force (see the entry on carding).
