Fertilizer-heavy agriculture

Japanese:
Fertilizer-heavy agriculture
Generally, it refers to a farming method that uses large amounts of fertilizer to increase the yield per unit area. In the narrow sense, it refers to a farming method of small-scale farming that aims to increase productivity by increasing the use of large amounts of fertilizer and labor, mainly through bare labor and increased use of fertilizer, especially fast-acting chemical fertilizer. Japanese agriculture before World War II was said to be a typical example. Unlike machinery and land improvement, fertilizer is easy to subdivide investment and has a quick return, so it can be freely adopted by any small-scale farming. Therefore, with the establishment of the chemical industry, especially the ammonium sulfate industry, in the early 1900s, the use of large amounts of fertilizer became a defining feature of Japanese agriculture. However, after the war, even advanced agricultural countries with extensive management began to use large amounts of chemical fertilizer. The so-called Green Revolution also relies on the idea of increasing yields by using large amounts of fertilizer.
