This is a former village area in the west of Gojo City, in the southwest of Nara Prefecture. It is located in the middle reaches of the Nyu River. Village ordinances were enacted in 1889. In 1959 it was merged with Muneta Village and Shirogane Village to form Nishiyoshino Village, and in 2005 it was incorporated into Gojo City. During the Nanboku-cho period, the imperial palace of Emperor Gomurakami of the Southern Court was located here from 1348 (Seiwa 4) to February 1352 (Bunwa 1), and from June of the same year to October 1352 (Bunwa 3). It is said that Emperor Gokameyama also had an imperial palace here, but it is unclear. Originally written as "Ano", it was renamed Ano due to a strong desire to restore Kyoto. The Ano Plum Grove, a famous plum blossom spot, is located here. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
