Hizen Peninsula

Japanese: 肥前半島 - ひぜんはんとう

A peninsula that protrudes westward from the area in northwest Kyushu, where the Genkai Sea is located to the north and the Ariake Sea to the south. The area includes western Saga Prefecture and the mainland of Nagasaki Prefecture, and corresponds to most of the former Hizen Province. The peninsula branches out like branches, forming a swastika shape overall. In the north, the Higashi Matsuura Peninsula and Kita Matsuura Peninsula, which are covered by a basalt plateau, jut out, and the inlet of Imari Bay, which separates the two peninsulas, extends south and continues into the fault valley along the Arida River. In the east, overlooking the Ariake Sea, are the Taradake volcano and the Shimabara Peninsula, which is dominated by the Unzen volcano group.

九州の北西部，北の玄界灘，南の有明海によって狭められたところから西方に突出した半島。佐賀県西部と長崎県本土部を含めた地域で，旧肥前国の大部分にあたる。支脈の半島が枝のように伸び，全体として卍形をなす。北部は玄武岩台地の広がる東松浦半島，北松浦半島が張り出し，両半島を隔てる伊万里湾の湾入が南に伸びて，有田川沿いの断層谷へつづく。東部には有明海にのぞんで多良岳火山と，雲仙岳の火山群を主体とした島原半島がある。
