…After becoming the religious advisor to King Kanishka (reigned 128-153), he accompanied the king to the kingdom of Yuezhi, where he spread Buddhism and was honored as Kudokunichi (the Day of Merit). As a pioneer of the Sanskritization of Buddhist scriptures, which was promoted in the Gupta dynasty, he composed the biography of Shakyamuni, Buddhacarita (translated as Praise of Buddha's Actions in Chinese), in the style of Kabya (court poetry).
