Buddhagayā (English spelling) Buddhagaya

…It is the place where Buddha attained enlightenment, located on the west bank of the Lilajan River (ancient name: Nairanjana, Chinese translation: Niranjana River) about 8 km south of Gaya City in the state of Bihar in northeastern India, and is the most sacred place in Buddhism. It is also known as Buddhagayā or transliterated as Butsuga. The Bodhi tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment was surrounded by a railing and made into a bodhi training center, and the Great Monastery (Mahabodhi, Mahabodhi Temple) was probably founded in the Gupta period (5th to 6th centuries).
