MKS Unit System

A system of units with the base units of length being the meter (m), mass being the kilogram (kg), and time being the second (s). It is an absolute system of units. It was proposed by Italian GLT Giorgi in 1901. However, the CGS system of units is used exclusively in the field of physics, the gravitational system of units in the field of engineering, and the MKS system of units has been used mainly in the field of electromagnetism. The system that adds the unit of electric current, the ampere (A), to the base units of this system is called the MKSA system of units.

基本単位として長さにメートル（m）、質量にキログラム（kg）、時間に秒（s）をとった単位系。絶対単位系である。1901年イタリアのジョルジG. L. T. Giorgiによって提案された。しかし、物理学の分野ではもっぱらCGS単位系が、工学分野では重力単位系が用いられ、MKS単位系は主として電磁気学の分野で用いられてきた。なお、この単位系の基本単位に電流の単位アンペア（A）を加えたものをMKSA単位系という。
