Azabu Yamauchi Family

...Nakamura Domain incurred the wrath of Shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi in 1689 (Genroku 2) and was abolished. It became a Shogunate territory and was returned to the main domain. Tadayoshi's third son, Kazuyasu, established the Azabu Yamauchi family in Edo, and his descendants were given 10,000 koku of rice from the main domain's rice tax, becoming the lords of Tosa Shinden Domain, a daimyo with a fixed residence. The status of Tosa samurai was divided into senior retainers, middle retainers, horsemen, pages, rusui-gumi, goshi, servants, foot soldiers, foot soldiers, and samurai servants. Those in the rusui-gumi and above were called joushi (upper samurai), and those below goshi were called kashi (lower samurai), but later a status of white-strapped retainers was created between them. ...

…中村藩は89年(元禄2)将軍徳川綱吉の怒りに触れて廃藩，幕府領となったのち本藩に返付された。忠義の三男一安は江戸に麻布山内家を興し，子孫は本藩収納米のうちから1万石を分与されて，定府（じようふ）大名の土佐新田藩主となった。土佐藩士の身分は，家老，中老，馬廻（うままわり），小姓組，留守居組，郷士，用人，徒士（かち），足軽，武家奉公人等に分かれ，留守居組以上を上士（じようし），郷士以下を下士（かし）と称したが，のちその中間に白札身分が派生した。…
