MK magnet steel

MK magnet steel
A precipitation hardening magnet steel invented by Mishima Tokushichi in 1932. The original composition was nickel (Ni) 25-27%, aluminum (Al) 12-13%, and the rest iron (Fe), but since then it has been improved by adding copper (Cu), cobalt (Co), titanium (Ti), etc., and the number of varieties has increased. The current composition range is Ni 15-27%, Al 8-13%, Co 0-25%, Cu 3-6%, and there are also ones with added Ti and niobium (Nb). Since it cannot be rolled forged, all are manufactured as castings. With a coercive force of 560-700 Oersted and a residual magnetic flux density of 5,800-13,200 Gauss, it is the most widely used permanent magnet material in the world along with ferrite magnets, and in the United States it is called Alnico. Anisotropic MK magnets (Co 23-24%, Ni 14-15%, Al 8-8.5%, Cu 3-4%, Ti < 1%) manufactured by special heat treatment have a coercive force of 550-700 Oersted and a residual magnetic flux density of 15,700 Gauss. They are widely used in electrical instruments, radio equipment, and electrical engineering. Another invention by Mishima was MT steel (C 1.5-3.0%, Al 6-9%), which is a hardening type magnet steel (→Magnetic materials).
