...A concept given by P. Schröder (1920) and K. Kleist (1901) to mental disorders that periodically or episodically show acute mental confusion, hallucinations, and delusions. It was based on the theory of alterations, which originated with BA Morel and V. Magnan of France, that is, the idea of "degradation of the mind and body."
