Kihokou - Kihokou

…Its name has been recorded since the 12th century as a passageway through which northern tribes invaded China. In particular, during the Ming Dynasty, it was located halfway between Shanhaiguan and Juyongguan, and, together with Xifengkou in the northeast and Dushikou in the northwest, it formed the first line of defense against Mongol attacks on the national capital, Beijing. Xifengkou is located north of Qianxi County in Hebei Province, and Dushikou is located north of Chicheng County, as well. All three of these have walled towns built to house garrisons inside the Great Wall that remain to this day. …
