[Laryngeal cartilage]
The shield-like cartilage that forms the outermost part and protects the whole body is called the thyroid cartilage, which consists of a wing-like left and right plate, which join at the front to form a protrusion. This laryngeal prominence is commonly called the Adam's apple or Adam's apple. Below this, the next largest is the cricoid cartilage, which is shaped like a ring with a seal engraved on it.

 最外郭をかたどり,全体を保護している楯状の軟骨を甲状軟骨といい,翼状の左板と右板とからなり,両者は前方で接合して突起をつくる。この喉頭隆起が俗に〈のどぼとけ〉といわれ,また〈アダムのリンゴAdam’s apple〉と呼ばれるものである。この下方にあり,それに次いで大きいのが輪状軟骨であり,印章を刻した指輪に似た形をしている。…
