Takase [Hot Spring] - Takase

Japanese: 高瀬[温泉] - たかせ

This hot spring is located in Sekikawa Village, Iwafune County, in northern Niigata Prefecture. Together with Takanosu Onsen, Kira Onsen, and Yuzawa Onsen, it forms part of the Arakawa Gorge Hot Springs Village. It is an old hot spring that has been used by travelers on the Yonezawa Kaido road, but in recent years, drilling has increased the amount of hot water and the size of the hot spring village has also grown. The spring quality is a saline spring with a temperature of 68-72°C. It is about a 10-minute bus ride from Echigo-Shimonoseki Station on the JR Yonesaka Line. Near the station is the Watanabe family residence, who were village headmen in the Edo period and also ran a sake brewery and shipping business. The nature trail that runs from the hot spring through the Arakawa Gorge is particularly beautiful during the seasons of new greenery and autumn leaves.

新潟県北部，岩船郡関川村にある温泉。鷹ノ巣温泉，雲母（きら）温泉，湯沢温泉とともに荒川峡温泉郷をなす。米沢街道を往来する旅人に利用されてきた古い温泉だが，近年のボーリングによって湯量が増加し，温泉街の規模も大きくなった。泉質は食塩泉，泉温68～72℃。JR米坂線越後下関駅からバスで約10分。駅の近くには江戸時代の庄屋で酒造，廻船業も営んだ渡辺家住宅があり，温泉から荒川峡谷をたどる自然遊歩道は新緑や紅葉の時期がとくによい。
