…Meanwhile, in Florence, Italy, the center of the Renaissance, a new bright and easy-to-read font was adopted to replace the black letters that were a relic of the medieval feudal period, and based on this, the Roman font was perfected in Venice around 1470 by Nicolas Jenson (1420-80). Since then, improvements to Roman fonts have been made, and from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century, the foundations of modern Roman fonts were laid by the excellent techniques of the Didot family of France and Caveliere Giambattista Bodoni (1740-1813) of Italy.
