Born January 25, 1880 in Fukuoka [Died] July 21, 1937. A staunch journalist who maintained an anti-military stance. His real name was Sunao. After graduating from Tokyo Senmon Gakko (the predecessor to Waseda University), he joined the Fukuoka Nichi Nichi Shimbun, a leading local newspaper affiliated with the Seiyukai Party, in 1903. He was mentored by the liberal editor-in-chief, Inomata Tameji, and eventually became editor-in-chief himself. Rokuko's name was particularly famous for his editorials during the May 15 Incident, which called for "the prime minister to fall in a violent attack" and "we urge the people to prepare themselves." His fierce criticism of military fascism led to threats and boycotts from the military and right-wing groups, including the Kurume Division, but he stubbornly refused to give in.
