With the death of Louis XIV in 1715, Italian actors resumed their theatrical activities, and the Italian Theatre (Comédie Italienne) was founded, which brought about a resurgence in popularity. However, the Commedia dell'arte had already become heavily Frenchified, and had lost its original Italian vitality.
