Blue Guide

…Baedeker's guides in particular became a model for subsequent travel guides due to their accuracy of description and maps, their high level of knowledge, their small pocket-sized red cover binding, their multilingual publication in English, German, and French, and their star-based evaluation system. In addition to the aforementioned Baedeker, which is still in existence today as a series of internationally acclaimed travel guides that cover every region of the world, the UK also publishes the Blue Guide (first published in 1918) by James Fullarton Muirhead (1853-1934), who was once in charge of the English version of Baedeker, and which is renowned for its commentary on history and literature. In France, well-known books include the Guide Bleu by Louis Christophe François Hachette (1800-64), the Guide to Hotels and Restaurants by André Michelin (1853-1931), the inventor of the pneumatic tire, and the Guide to N'Agère by Louis Nagel (1908- ).
