...The legs are relatively short and red. There are two genera of stilts, Himantopus and Cladorhynchus , each of which has one species, H. himantopus (black-winged stilt) (illustration) and C. leucocephalus (banded stilt). The black-winged stilt is endemic to Australia, but the banded stilt is widely distributed throughout the tropical regions of the world, and is sometimes divided into eight species.
