The oldest historical book in Sri Lanka, written in Pali verse. Translated as "History of the Island" or "History of the Island Kings," it is believed to have been written in the late 4th or early 5th century, but the name of the editor is unknown. It describes the history of the Sri Lankan kings beginning with the founder Vijaya, the establishment and introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka, and the rise and fall of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
