Scrotum hydrocele - Hydrocele (English spelling)

Japanese: 陰囊水瘤 - いんのうすいりゅう（英語表記）hydrocele testis

It is also called scrotal hydrocele or testicular hydrocele. The testicle is surrounded by a double membrane called the tunica vaginalis proper. Normally, a small amount of fluid exists between these two layers of membrane, but this condition refers to a condition in which an abnormally large amount of fluid accumulates between them. The accumulated fluid is pale yellow and transparent. It is common in infants and the elderly, and is thought to be caused by abnormally increased secretion of fluid from the inner surface of the tunica vaginalis proper or impaired reabsorption of fluid. It is broadly divided into congenital and acquired, the former being more common in infants and the latter in the elderly. Causes of acquired cases include trauma to the testicle, orchitis/epididymitis, and testicular tumors.

陰囊水腫あるいは睾丸水瘤ともいう。睾丸は固有鞘膜と呼ばれる二重の膜で包まれている。正常でもこの2層の膜の間には少量の液が存在しているが，ここに異常に大量の液が貯留した状態をいう。貯留液は淡黄色透明である。幼児と老人に多く，その発生原因は固有鞘膜内面における液の分泌の異常亢進または液の再吸収障害によると考えられる。先天性のものと後天性のものに大別され，前者は幼児に多く後者は老人に多い。後天性のものの原因には，睾丸の外傷，睾丸･副睾丸炎，睾丸腫瘍などがあげられる。
