Coking coal - Genryotan

Japanese: 原料炭 - げんりょうたん
Coking coal - Genryotan
Coal used as raw material for industrial processing, such as for briquettes and coke. Generally speaking, this refers to coal used primarily as raw material for coke. It is a strong caking coal with strong caking properties and is used in steelmaking and casting. Coal for steelmaking must be low in ash, sulfur, and phosphorus. As there is little high-quality coal in Japan, the majority of the demand (65.38 million tons) is imported (64.56 million tons) (1990).
