Cimmerian

Japanese: キンメリア人 - きんめりあじん（英語表記）Cimmerian

An Iranian ethnic group that first formed a horse-riding nomadic power in the southern Russian steppes around the 9th century BC. They were known for their horse riding, mounted archery, and chariot-style houses, and were the forerunners of the later Scythian state. Underground cave tombs discovered on the northern shore of the Black Sea and in the Caucasus region are believed to be those of the Cimmerians. Following the Medes and Persians who had earlier migrated to the Iranian plateau, the Cimmerians crossed the Caucasus and invaded the Kingdom of Urartu (around Lake Van) (722-715 BC), and even threatened the Assyrian Empire.

前9世紀ころ南ロシア草原において最初に騎馬遊牧勢力を形成したイラン系民族。乗馬，騎射，車両住宅に特色があり，のちのスキタイ国家の先達である。黒海北岸やカフカス地方で発見される地下横穴式墳墓がキンメリア人のものとされる。さきにメディア人やペルシア人がイラン高原に移動したあとを追って，キンメリア人もカフカスを越えてウラルトゥ王国(ワン湖周辺)に侵入し(前722‐前715)，さらにアッシリア帝国を脅かした。
