A former town in Date County, northeastern Fukushima Prefecture. It is located in the middle reaches of the Hirose River, a tributary of the Abukuma River. It produces rice, cucumbers, Chinese chives, and fruit. There are low-voltage and electrical machinery factories. Shimotedo was originally a small castle town of the Tachibana clan. In January 2006, it merged with Date Town, Yanagawa Town, Hobara Town, and Ryozen Town in Date County to become a city, Date City. 43.63 km2 . 4,692 people (2003). 福島県北東部，伊達(だて)郡の旧町。阿武隈(あぶくま)川の支流広瀬川中流に位置する。米，キュウリ，ニラ，果樹を産する。弱電，電気機械の工場がある。下手渡(しもてど)はもと立花氏の小城下町。2006年１月，伊達郡伊達町，梁川町，保原町，霊山町と合併し市制，伊達市となる。43.63km2。4692人（2003）。
