Also called energetics. A scientific idea advocated by German chemist FW Ostwald in the late 19th century, which was influential until the beginning of the 20th century. It takes the position that all natural phenomena should be explained by the movement of energy and the transformation of its form. It was in opposition to atomic theory, but gradually lost its position after J. Perrin determined the Avogadro number from his observations of Brownian motion in the early 20th century, and this was accepted by the academic community at the time as conclusive evidence of the existence of molecules.

エネルゲティクともいう。 19世紀後半ドイツの化学者 F.W.オストワルトによって主張され，20世紀初頭まで有力であった科学思想。すべての自然現象は，エネルギーの移動と形態の転換によって記述されるべきであるという立場を取る。原子論と対立的立場にあったが，20世紀初め J.ペランがブラウン運動の観測からアボガドロ数を決定し，これが分子の実在を示す決定的証拠として当時の学界に受入れられるに及んで，以後次第にその立場を失った。
