Milanese (English spelling)
Milanese knitting machine, or knitting made on this machine. It is so named because it originated in Milan, Italy. The warp threads move in only one direction, and the two reeds move in opposite directions, so each stitch is always made with two threads. The fabric has a beautiful ripple on the front and a diamond pattern on the back, making it an elegant knit. It is warm, light, and does not unravel, so it is used for underwear, sweaters, cardigans, gloves, etc., using silk, rayon, and synthetic fibers. There are flat and circular knitting machines.
