Werner complex

A complex that can be explained by the coordination theory of Swiss chemist A. Werner. In other words, it is a complex formed by the coordination of a molecule or ion (monatomic or polyatomic ion) with an unshared electron pair to a central metal ion. The complex formed in this case can be either an ion or a molecule. Examples are [Co(NH ₃ ) ₆ ] ³⁺ , [Fe(CN) ₆ ] ^4- , [Co(NO ₂ ) ₃ (NH ₃ ) ₃ ], [Cr(NH ₂ CH ₂ COO) ₃ ], [Cr(H ₂ O) ₆ ] ³⁺ , [Cr(edta)] ^- , etc. However, unlike these, sandwich complexes, olefin complexes, and allyl complexes involve π (pi) electron systems in the coordination bond, and furthermore form π bonds by back donation, and are therefore called non-Werner complexes because they cannot be explained by Werner's coordination theory.

スイスの化学者A・ウェルナーの配位理論によって説明することのできる錯体をいう。すなわち、中心金属イオンに非共有電子対をもつ分子あるいはイオン（単原子イオンでも多原子イオンでもよい）が配位してできた錯体をいう。このとき生成する錯体はイオンであっても分子であってもよい。たとえば、[Co(NH₃)₆]³⁺、[Fe(CN)₆]^4-、[Co(NO₂)₃(NH₃)₃]、[Cr(NH₂CH₂COO)₃]、[Cr(H₂O)₆]³⁺、[Cr(edta)]^-などがそうである。しかしこれらとは違って、サンドイッチ錯体や、オレフィン錯体、アリル錯体などは、配位結合にπ(パイ)電子系が関与しており、しかも逆供与によってπ結合を生成するなどしていて、ウェルナーの配位理論では説明できないので非ウェルナー錯体とよばれる。
