Badger baiting

...In folklore, the raccoon dog is the equivalent of the Japanese tanuki, but it also has the tendency to resist violently when peace and security are disturbed. In England, this tendency was exploited in a game called "badger baiting," in which dogs were used to bully badgers that had been driven into barrels or artificial holes. The dachshund breed was developed for badger hunting (Dachs in German).
